Star Trek: Android Emotions

Hello Batlings!
This post is for the trekkies of the world!

I have a theory; Lt. commander Data had emotions, just not human emotions.

If you haven't seen Next Generation, than you won't really understand this theory.

Data, on several occasions, has said that he doesn't have emotions; but he's also claimed that he never uses contractions, in the same sentence that he used a contraction!

Data is always curious, he would give his life for his friends, he does not want to die, he likes Sherlock Holmes, he cares for Geordi, he once built a daughter for himself!

Curiosity, love, fear, happiness, Data feels them all, he just doesn't express them the same way we do.

Data can't be paralyzed by fear, so he believes he doesn't feel fear; Data has emotions, he just doesn't feel (or express) them the same way we do.

He has a cat named Spot; he tells his cat that she is a good kitty and a pretty kitty.

Go watch Next Generation; but THIS time, look for Data's emotions.

Data wants to be human, and he wants human emotions; what he doesn't realize is that he is an android and has android emotions.

What do you think of my theory? Comment your opinions about Data! (and please, don't be mean to robots!)

Goodbye Trekkies! 'Androids! Everyone loves androids!' -- Yoda (LOL).

  1. You are on to something! I loved the character Data. He articulates well and he identifies feelings intellectually, which means he experiences them but, as you say, he doesn't express them like we do with excitement, tears m, drama, etc.
